Modern calligraphy: Ukrainian Vyaz

Modern calligraphy:Ukrainian Vyaz

In this series of calligraphic compositions I used Vyaz, a type of decorative Cyrillic lettering. Vyaz emerged in Byzantine scriptoriums in the middle of the 11th century from the Greek majuscules; it was used for book titles that look like a long horizontal line with ligatures (from Latin ligatura, joining of two or more adjacent letters into a single sign).
The inspiration behind it is ancient Ukrainian and Bulgarian Cyrillic manuscripts; as a basis, I used Ukrainian Vyaz (from Galician manuscript samples). I also added my own modern stylization.
Here lyrics of various Ukrainian songs and quotes from Ukrainian writers are used.
THANK YOU!
